International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist ISA is the most prestigious professional tree organization on the planet. Certification requires verifiable experience and passing a rigorous examination designed by internationally recognized tree scientists, horticulturalists, and industry experts. Professional growth is encouraged and continuing education is required to maintain all certificates.
Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR), Qualified Applicator License (QAL) In response to client needs, Dan and Ian studied for and passed another rigorous exam to earn their QALs. Their focus is on toxin-free or “closed system” insecticides. Closed system insecticides are injected into trees which avoids unintentional cross contamination and over spraying. They are currently experimenting on an aggressive solution to Western pine bark beetle infestations.
V.P. Mountain Rim Fire Safe Council Dan and Mountain Tree Service have long served the mountain communities. As a tactical radio specialist with a volunteer radio group attached to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, Dan attended mandatory training in a variety of first responder classes taught by the SBCFD. It was here that Dan learned the principles of “Fire Behavior in a Wildland Urban Interface,” or WUI. Each mountain neighborhood is in a WUI. Now possitioned to actually help mountain property owners with their trees and enhance fire safety, Dan became a defacto defensible space guy... unintentionally. His unique training, education, and experience has made him an asset on the MRSFC.
Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP) The CTSP program is the only safety-credentialing program in the industry and is designed to address several of the safety challenges that tree care companies face. More than a straightforward “safety trainer” credentialing program, CTSP teaches safety professionals strategies and tactics for changing the very culture of their organization. A CTSP acts as a safety “coach,” working to develop and nurture a culture of safety. The program provides the CTSP with a well-rounded education in safety concepts, plus the tools to effectively communicate these concepts.
Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) Hazardous trees regularly lead to death or injury of arborists and property owners. To address this issue, the ISA has created the Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ). TRAQ promotes the safety of people and property by providing a standardized and systematic process for assessing tree risk. The results of a tree risk assessment can provide tree owners and risk managers with information to make informed decisions to enhance tree benefits, health, and longevity. This education and training equips arborists with strategies to systematically identify and assess tree risk.
Office manager - Geri Begley Office manager
Simply put, Mountain Tree Service would not exist without Geri. Her dedication, work ethic, technical prowess, and generous personality are invaluable. Geri has served in many of the same volunteer organizations as Dan, particularly ESC. Geri is universally loved by crew and client alike.
Lead Groundman – Ian Lindsay ISA Certified Arborist, DPR QAL, Safety Inspector.
Ian is beyond reliable and has been since day one. Whether after fifteen minutes or fifteen hours of hard work, Ian’s unwavering terrific attitude and work ethic is legendary and infectious. His education, focus on safety, training, experience, and personality all contribute to universal admiration, and encourages those around him to be their best. Indeed, the workday seems to go by easier with Ian around, such is his camaraderie. Professionally, he became a Certified Arborist the same day as Dan, and he continues his training and education to this day.
Safety Inspector Ian is a natural at avoiding danger. We have a saying: “If you want to live a long time, do as Ian does.” Tree work is inherently dangerous, and Ian knows this as well as anyone. Once a job has begun, he stays alert on each phase of the job, monitors who is doing what, and whether intervention is required. He’s also pretty funny and a smart guy!
Lead climber, Safety Inspector - Jay Johnsen
Jay is a wonderful human being. He is a talented climber and is very experienced in the tree industry. He has a constant eye out for the safety, is hardworking and as honest as the day is long. Dan is sure Jay entered his life for a reason: he is a friend, teacher and sincere student of life. Jay tackles tough climbing jobs regularly, does beautiful work, and the value of his input on virtually every job cannot be overestimated.
Groundman - Anthony Lopez
Anthony is very experienced and focused on safety. He is always looking for hazards to the safety of people and property. Full of life and passion, Anthony fills an important and valuable role on our team as only he can. He is a study in teammanship, energy and tenacity, and is simply hard not to like, gets the job done, and works hard with an attitude that mirrors Ian’s. His contribution to the team is immeasurable. His spirit is infectious, and he's a mean third baseman, too!
Climber, Safety Inspector - Alex (aka Lama) Luoma
